Welcome to my blog if you’re checking in from Sew Mama Sew for May Giveaway Day! I’m Amanda, and I am happy to have you stop by. I have a 16 month old son who is into just about everything, especially if it involves water or dirt- but preferably both. 
It was high time for me to sew the mud pie chef his own smock… or double his wardrobe because the washing machine (read: me) just couldn’t keep up. I didn’t want to buy a pattern, so I made one using a favorite T-shirt as a guide for sizing. I made a few different versions of the smock, one in quilting cottons, one actually quilted, and one out of an old vinyl tablecloth. I think I will also try a PUL backed terrycloth smock, kind of like a gigantic bib. I will post a tutorial up on the site tomorrow showing the whole process from drafting a pattern to sewing the smock. I hope that it will inspire you to spend a nap whipping up a smock like this for the kiddos in your life.
For the Sew Mama Sew May Giveaway, I will be sending along my Busy Bee Smock pictured above to one lucky winner! The smock is quilting cotton weight, washable (duh!), and would fit an average toddler, sizes 2T – 3T for sure, and probably up to 4T (but I don’t have a 4T model to test that out on). I have a teeny tiny clothing business so most of my sewing time goes to filling orders…which is FANTASTIC from a business perspective! BUT, the creative side of the business is my passion, so I guess I wish that I spent more time on my new creations…but then I probably wouldn’t be able to afford that without the other…a happy catch 22.

I just learned how to sew a couple of weeks ago. I’ve made a bag and a skirt (both made in a sewing class) and I went solo this weekend and made a pillow. I badly need curtains in my living room so that will be my next challenge. The smock would be perfect for my 2 little troublemaker nephews!

I spent a lot of time recently sewing little things for a craft sale. I did not enjoy it! I’d much rather be making bed sized quilts or clothing for my little girl.

I would love to be able to dedicate time to sewing slipcovers and pillows for my couches because they are in serious need of a makeover! Thanks for posting!

I sew as a creative outlet, so it’s rarely a chore or boring. I do let the mending pile up but most of the time I’m sewing purses or gifts.
I spend my time sewing gifts for my family. Most recently, I made bibs and burp cloths; 3 skirts; 3 floor pillows for toddlers’ and a flip chair.

Most of my sewing energies are spent making aprons, which I love! The bumblebee fabric is so sweet! I know just the tot who would put this to good use!
Both of my kids would love this smock! Its adorable. So lately I do a lot of quilting. I guess it is what I want to be sewing, but I do wish I could spend more time sewing so I could make more things for the kids.

I spend most of my time altering pants for my 4 year old daughter. She can still fit into some 24mo pants, in the waist. So I’m either adding an adjustable waist to everything or chopping of length to turn pants into capris or shorts. 🙂 I wish I had more time to sew home decor items, like pillows and quilts. Most of what I sew is things for my kids. toys, pillows, dress up stuff, decor and its all repurposed stuff we have from home or that I got at a thrift store. I love that challenge.
I’m not sure how to answer this one. I tend to just pick out projects I like and give them a whirl. I have made stuffed toys, blankets, clothes, shoes, hair accessories . . . whatever strikes my fancy at the moment, you know?

I’m quite new to sewing. In fact I got my first sewing maching for Christmas and so far I’ve sewed a pillowcase for my oldest son and some cloth wipes for my youngest. My two tornadoes keep me so busy I haven’t had time to sew much else. So I’d love to learn to sew just about anything right.;o)
